Translation & Localization

Translation & Localization

English

Translation gets the words right. Localization gets everything else right — the tone, the cultural references, the context. I work in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.

What's the Difference

Translation vs Localization

Hover over each side to feel the difference.

Translation
Accurate. But foreign.
Converting words from one language to another. Technically correct — but it can still feel like it came from somewhere else.
Example
"Your adventure begins now"
→ 「您的冒險現在開始」
(字面正確,但讀起來像機器翻譯。)
Localization
Natural. Like it was made here.
Adapting content so it feels like it was created for that market — not just translated into it. The tone, the humor, the cultural context.
Example
"Your adventure begins now"
→ 「冒險,從這裡出發」
(自然,有節奏感,像台灣人會說的話。)

What I Can Help With

Built for Each Market

01
Marketing & Brand Copy
EN ↔ ZH-TW/ZH-HK EN ↔ ZH-CN
Your tagline in English might be clever. In Chinese, it might mean nothing. I localize your marketing copy so it sounds like it was written for that market from the start.

Game Localization
EN ↔ ZH-TW/ZH-HK EN ↔ ZH-CN JA → ZH-TW JA → ZH-CN
Characters with personality. Jokes that actually land. UI text that fits the screen. I localize games so players feel at home, not like they're playing a translation.

UI & Product Copy
EN ↔ ZH-TW/ZH-HK EN ↔ ZH-CN
Short text is the hardest to get right. I localize app interfaces, error messages, and onboarding flows with character limits and cultural context in mind.

04
Business & Legal Documents
EN ↔ ZH-TW/ZH-HK EN ↔ ZH-CN JA → ZH-TW/ZH-HK JA ↔ ZH-CN
Contracts, proposals, reports, and business correspondence. Accurate, professional, and appropriate for your target market.

05
Transcreation
EN ↔ ZH-TW/ZH-HK EN ↔ ZH-CN JA → ZH-TW/ZH-HK JA ↔ ZH-CN
Some content needs more than translation — it needs to be rebuilt. I take your message and recreate it in a way that lands with the same impact in a different language.

How It Works

From Source to Market-Ready

Step One
Brief & Context
You share the content, the audience, and the tone you're going for. The more context I have, the better the result — a tagline for a luxury brand sounds very different from one for a gaming startup.
Step Two
Translation & Adaptation
I translate and localize — keeping your voice intact across languages. Not just converting words, but making sure the meaning, the tone, and the feeling survive the journey.
Step Three
Review & Refinement
You review, we discuss any changes, and I refine until it feels right. Good localization is a conversation, not a one-way delivery.
Step Four
Delivery
Clean, formatted, ready to publish — in whatever format you need. And if you ever need updates down the line, I'm still here.

Real Projects, Real Results

Localization · Technical Content

AI Got the Words Right. But the Meaning Was Wrong.

You tried AI translation. It looked fine. But in technical content, looking fine and being correct are two completely different things. This is what happened when a global manufacturer discovered that their AI-translated training videos contained physical errors their technicians were about to follow. When did you last have a specialist check what your AI output actually said?

Localization · Taiwan Market

When Your English Brief Becomes a Taiwanese Brand Voice

A Singapore brand entered Taiwan with strong spaces and copy that described every single one of them perfectly. Perfectly, but invisibly. Taiwanese professionals were not looking for a description. They were looking for a reason to care. I found that reason, and rewrote everything around it. Is your content speaking your language or theirs?

Why Work With Me

Most translators convert words.
I convert meaning.

The difference between a translation that looks right and one that actually works is domain knowledge, cultural context, and understanding what your audience needs to feel before they trust you. That is what I bring to every project.
